Chapter 13

Chase knew something was bothering Carter. Carter was moody and an asshole since he came back from New York. Chase was tired of being Carter's punching bag for the last week.

"Chase, get your ass in here," Carter yelled out. Chase shook his head in irritation. Chase stood up from his desk and walked into Carter's office.

"What the fuck are you going to bitch at me about now?" Chase asked with anger in the doorway. Carter looked up at him with a grim look on his face.

What the hell is your problem?" Carter barked.

You! You have been an asshole for the last few days. Maybe you need to get fucking laid because something definitely crawled up your fucking ass, and frankly, I am tired of it." Chase sneered back. Carter sat back in his chair, staring at Chase with anger. He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Carter, did something happen between you and Lillie in New York?" Chase asked with concern.

Carter debated about telling Chase how he really felt about Lillie. Chase walked into Carter's office and sat in the chair across from Carter, waiting for Carter to answer him.

"Chase, I fell hard for Lillie. I can't stop thinking about her." Carter whispered.

"So, what is the problem? Did you tell her how you felt?" Chase asked curiously. Carter shook his head no.

"No, instead, I rejected her," Carter whispered. Chase pointed his finger at Carter angrily.

"What the fuck, Carter? Why?"

"Lillie deserves a whole man, not a fucked up one like me. I am a fucked up man with repulsive scars. I almost hurt her from my dreams of the past. Jeezus, Chase, I had her in a chokehold because I was dreaming of being in the jungle with terrorists."

"Carter, if Lillie feels the same about you. The scars will not repulse her, and the dreams can be helped with therapy."

"Remember, I did take a chance once with a woman. She felt the scars, turned the light on, saw them, went into the bathroom, and vomited. It is just easier to be alone instead of being rejected."

"Carter, Lillie might be just the one you need." Carter shook his head in denial.

"Just leave it be, Chase. I am better off without being in a relationship."

"Fine, if that is what you want. But you need to quit being an asshole to me."

"I am sorry for taking it out on you. I will just have to deal with it myself."

Chase stood up and smiled at Carter. He nodded his head and walked towards the entrance.

"If you don't, I will have to kick your fucking ass," Chase said, laughing. Chase pointed his finger at Carter. Carter laughed out loud at his comment.

"Seriously, I will fucking kick your ass if you keep being an asshole."

"Get your ass out of my office and get back to work, little brother."

"I may be the younger brother, but I could kick your ass." Chase laughed and walked out of Carter's office.
